MARGARET HOWELL AUTUMN/WINTER 2015-16 READY-TO-WEAR LONDON FASHION WEEK

MARGARET HOWELL AUTUMN/WINTER 2015-16 READY-TO-WEAR LONDON FASHION WEEK

UNUSUALLY for Margaret Howell, the brand upped sticks from its Wigmore Showroom for its autumn/winter 2015 presentation, which one could be forgiven for thinking that change was afoot. Not so. This morning’s show was quintessentially Howell, with the expected wool sweaters, superfine polo necks, and paperbag-waist tailoring that spell stripped-back luxury so well.

This is a brand that gets the bookish tomboy look down to a tee. From the stiff leather satchels to the cropped trousers met with socks and – sometimes patent – Chelsea boots and loafers seen today, its look is thoroughly charming, if easily achievable.

Being an autumnal collection, all eyes were on the coats, which were a triumph. Sumptuous tweed overcoats were authentic and ageless, as if inherited from a dapper Hampstead author, while the sheepskins – that came sleeveless and full length – were the stars of the show.
