A.L.C. AUTUMN/WINTER 2015-16 READY-TO-WEAR NEW YORK
Andrea Lieberman knows what girls want. Fall found the A.L.C. designer drawing on a bicoastal notion of the season (she’s L.A.-based) with plenty of quietly nostalgic touches from two decades that are presently rattling around the Zeitgeist: the ’70s and the ’90s. The former came through with pleasant subtlety; Lieberman’s not trading on the post-Ghesquière turtleneck and flares combo that’s become so ubiquitous of late. Instead she opted for quiet nods, like her palette (toffee and candy-apple red made for a surprisingly blissful combo), a foulard print, little black dresses with little lace bibs, and fully fashioned knits in a windowpane print.
Culottes have rarely looked as cool as her utilitarian take, with their big double buckle details—though that was far from the only standout hardware here. Take Lieberman’s terrific pierced styles, for example. She amped up the interest of a simple, ocher-colored midi skirt by running small silver barbells (like those some of us may have had in the upper cartilage of our ear at one point or another) way down a slit. The result was elevated, and a bit edgy—just one of the many hits Lieberman has on her hands here.
