ANTONIO BERARDI AUTUMN/WINTER 2015-16 READY-TO-WEAR LONDON

WE’RE all au fait with premise of “smart casual” dressing, but Antonio Berardi went down the road of a formalwear-daywear hybrid this morning. Translation: glitzing up, sparkling out and adding twists, turns, frills and peplums to parkas, cashmere and shearling so that suddenly traditional everyday garments had been transformed into something more akin to cocktail hour. A park-gown perhaps? The designer had referenced the architectural work of Frank Gehry and combined that, he said, with bringing the “fantastical” to daywear. But when he wasn’t playing fashion magician, he stuck to what he does best: lithe, tight and sculpted dresses which this time got attention in shots of shocking pink, cerise, lilac and yellow – and a good smattering of embellishment.
