Australian Graduate Fashion Designer of the Year 2013, Bei Na Wei, is already capturing the attention of the fashion industry with her bold minimalism and powerfully feminine sculptural designs. Graduating from the Fashion Design Studio at Sydney TAFE in 2013. Bei Na found her love for clothes too overpowering to continue with a fast tracked career in electrical engineering. With an all or nothing approach, Bei Na quit her day job designing power station control systems the day she received her acceptance letter to The Fashion Design Studio and for the last 3 years has completely immersed herself in studying fashion design. Strongly influenced by a summer studying experimental patternmaking at Central Saint Martins in London, Bei Na’s designs strike a delicate balance between intelligent technical mastery and luxurious details. Her debut collection explores and pushes fabrications beyond their traditional uses, twisting industrial strength meshes into elegant draped dresses and basic beads into geometric 3D structural embellishments. With meticulous attention to detail, intricate craftsmanship and beautiful fabrications, Bei Na’s work further pushes the frontiers of the Australian fashion landscape.
