DESIGN PHILOSOPHY
CHIYOME is motivated by the challenge of determining balanced solutions. The studio’s clean and minimalist perspective manifests through sharp lines, subtle color relationships and smart proportions. The brand continually explores alternative materials and methods of structuring, originating from the foundational question: what is essential? CHIYOME is committed to creating exceptional products through radical means that strengthen the social fabric of New York. The designs are heavily influenced by contemporary art, architecture and furniture.
DESIGNER
Creative Director and CEO Anna Lynett Moss’s design and production experiences were honed on Project Runway and as an edition printer at Gemini G.E.L.. Anna graduated from Rhode Island School of Design with a BFA in Printmaking.
(chi-oh-may)
CHIYOME has firm aesthetic roots in the maternal Japanese ancestry of its designer, Anna Lynett Moss, who founded the studio in 2012. The name belonged to her great-grandmother and is the first of three generations of CHI names in her family: Chiyome, Chiyeko, Chiyo.
PRODUCTION
MADE IN NYC
CHIYOME products are proudly designed and manufactured in New York City. The company makes a distinct effort to source materials from minority- owned local businesses and maintain the heritage of leatherwork in NYC. The CHIYOME studio was founded at 5Pointz in Long Island City, NY.
IMPACT
Summer 2013 marks the launch of the studio’s innovative work program for at-risk women in NYC. CHIYOME actualizes a future of freedom and possibility for some of the city’s most under-served residents.
