DANIELLE ROMERIL AUTUMN/WINTER 2015-16 READY-TO-WEAR LONDON FASHION WEEK
BE it living off the grid (like last season) or in a dystopian future of sorts, Danielle Romeril’s collections always have an earthly, raw and real quality to them – be it through the aforementioned starting points or through her fabric experimentation, which are often craft-orientated. Today she was showing us how to survive – should life in the not too distant future go awry and there are no longer any shops to facilitate our ever-hungry buying needs. Her answer is salvage and scavenge – a more directional take on the make-do and mend philosophy for quilted and padded jackets and coats; lace-edge detailing (using an ancient Japanese technique) on asymmetric skirts and sleeves of cord tops; and silhouettes to block the cold out and embrace that survivalist spirit.
