1945
Emilio Cavallini is born in San Miniato (Pisa).
1964-1970
He studies Economics and Business at the University of Florence but drops out before completing his degree. He dedicates himself to his great passion, fashion, and works part-time in a hosiery factory.
He goes to London and collaborates with Mary Quant on her stocking collections. He proposes the first pantyhouse: stockings patterned in black and white, dots, stars, skulls, stripes, animal prints, fishnets of every size and design, fluorescent colors.
1970-1980
He opens the Stilnovo stocking company in San Miniato.
He produces stockings for the biggest names: initially Mary Quant, Dior and Celine, later adding Balenciaga, Alexander Mc Queen and Gucci.
He collaborates with major stocking brands such as Pretty Polly and Elbeo.
1980-1990
Birth of the Emilio Cavallini hosiery brand.
Cavallini introduces innovative footwear and sports clothing lines for men and women, sold through licensed outlets. He opens boutiques in Florence, Milan, Rome, New York, Paris, London, Dusseldorf, Hong Kong and Tokyo. He became member of Italian Fashion Chamber. His men’s collections tread the catwalk in Paris, the women’s in Milan.
Francesco Cossiga, President of the Italian Republic, names him “Knight of Industry”.
In the eighties he focuses on study and experimentation of new and innovative stockings and pantyhose. This decade also witnesses the introduction of new technologies, such as the seamless stocking machine for large diameter stockings, which allows him to create a stocking for the entire body.
In 1989 he receives the Leone d’Oro prize for Fashion in Venice. That same year, Francesco Cossiga names him “Officer” of the Republic.
1990-2011
Taking discerning advantage of new technologies, from the 1990s to the present, Cavallini discovers different ways of developing the themes recurring in his products.
He abandons the design of total look clothing and dedicates himself wholly to seamless garments, whit collections shown in New York.
In 1993, the president of the Italian Republic, Oscar Luigi Scalfaro, names him “Commendatore”.
He concentrates on organizing his archive of decorative motifs and techniques used throughout his career. With his unflagging love for historical and contemporary art, he dedicates himself to the creation of multiform works, in whose conception mathematical formulas play a primary role. The connecting thread is the weave of the stocking.
Every year, Stilnovo S.p.A produces 4 million patterned and decorated stockings, which are exported all over the world.
