Espadrilles used to be the absolute must-have summer-shoe in the 50ies, the French Riviera jet set loved them and there was really nobody in the 80ies who didn’t own a minimum of one pair of the light canvas-shoe with its characteristic jute-sole. After their high-period they disappeared for many years. Especially in Germany it was really hard to find them. Today, the classic celebrates its comeback: espadrij l’originale brings the original Espadrille back onto the streets.
Every single pair of espadrij l’originale is traditionally produced in one of the last original factories in a small village in the French Pyrenees. They are handmade or manufactured on old, traditional machines. The whole village used to live from the espadrilles production, before cheap Asia-productions flooded the market during the 80ies. Nowadays it’s the only village in France that still produces in this traditional way.
The result: highest quality, natural materials and an authentic look. Our trademark: a strong canvas and a solid, rugged sole covered with water-resistant natural rubber, which makes the shoe resistant to water and humidity.
We understand espadrij l’originale as an exquisites label. The traditional production method rules out mass production from the first. Therefore we are offering a small, but fine collection, which is supplemented by selected colors and styles each season. Always there: Our classic styles, the “Classique” and the “Handmade” style. Currently you can choose from more than 10 different styles and 20 colors. Enjoy your pair of espadrij l’originale!
