RYAN LO AUTUMN/WINTER 2015-16 READY-TO-WEAR LONDON

This beautifully crafted collection elevated Ryan Lo’s label to a new level. While the designer’s past efforts have walked a kitschy and whimsical line, his fall offering — though still ultraromantic — was grounded in more mature, real-world clothes. Lo’s show notes even stated that his “heroine has grown up” and his references ran from Anna Karenina to the “Frozen” cartoon character Elsa.

Lo fashioned lace, tulle, ostrich feathers and fur into polished silhouettes. One delicate, calf-length dress was done in contrasting panels of blue and black lace, while another blue lace, pleated skirt was paired with a high-necked navy blouse that was knotted with a bow. Some of the looks had a sweet, Sixties air — such as a black lace, A-line skirt worn with a matching blouse — and veils dotted with crystals added to the retro mood.

There’s clearly a newly refined edge to Lo’s work, which is particularly fitting given he was recently named as one of the 26 semifinalists for this year’s LVMH Prize.
