Diane von Furstenberg – Pre Spring/Summer 2016 Ready-To-Wear

“As I always say, if you’re not a Furstenberg, you’re a Lastenberg.” That was James Corden, who was a hit as host of last night’s CFDA Awards. Under Diane von Furstenberg’s watch, the ceremony and its guest list have gotten ever more A-list. There has been an evolution at her label recently, too. Michael Herz, who was installed as artistic director last year, is a savvy interpreter of the brand’s codes. It’s safe to say that it’s never looked more “Furstenberg” than it has since he took over. Cases in point at this morning’s Resort presentation were the black-and-white patchwork maxi skirt and pussy-bow blouse and a floral-print jumpsuit, both of which followed the same languid, ’70s lines of Karlie Kloss’ knockout DVF dress at the CFDAs. Other pieces worth highlighting included a marinière-stripe, floor-length T-shirt dress in the company’s popular stretch jersey, and a zebra-stripe trench backed in the same jersey “for comfort.” In Herz’s mind, ease is just as essential to the DVF DNA as disco-era glamour. Watching Von Furstenberg work the room at the Awards last night in a printed dress that spilled off one shoulder, you could see where he was coming from.
