Trina Turk is one optimistic lady, and her collection is just as aggressively happy. While the bright colors and cheerful prints may sometimes be out of sync with the dominant trends in New York, you can bet there will always be a customer who lives for 80 degree days, a bit of sand between her toes, and flirty, flared day dresses. And some of those customers might even be hardened city dwellers—during Turk’s presentation, one fan came up to discuss her honeymoon plans with the designer. The coral chiffon dress with built-in shorts (a favorite of Turk’s) would look great in cream for the bridal trousseau, they agreed, and several of the Mr. Turk looks could be packed, too.
Resort’s poppy red made its way into Spring, as did a host of other vibrant colors. This season, the starting point was a walk through the Los Angeles flower mart one morning. The flowers Turk saw looked good enough to put on dresses, little shorts, halter tops, and jumpsuits and, for the men, on textured pants, board shorts and button-downs. The happy vibes rubbed off on the models, who took selfies and Instagrammed away during the presentation.
Turk emphasized the bags and shoes that were a new addition in the past year. Pieces like the woven market totes dipped in paint played nicely with the clothes. And for the Trina Turk newbie, these might be an easy entry into this land of color and whimsy.
